ORTHO-K

WHAT IS ORTHO-K?
Correct your vision and protect your eyes from disease by correcting and controlling myopia progression. Orthokeratology, also known as Ortho-K, is a life changing treatment for myopia. Ortho-k "retainer lenses" are worn only while you sleep. Wake up with clear vision. No need for glasses, contacts or surgery!
Ortho-k is great for active people, those who work in dusty environments, swimmers, dry or sensitive eyes, and anyone who may not want to -- or be able to -- undergo laser surgery. Our team of orthokeratologists have vast experience in this treatment and a track record of success, even in cases of extremely high myopia.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Ortho-k lenses work by correcting the shape and curvature of the cornea (front surface of the eye). Special custom made retainer lenses are designed for each individual eye to produce the perfect shape.
A gentle hydraulic force is created by a series of grooves and curves on the back surface of the lens, which is filled with liquid.
Unlike with Lasik surgery, no cells are damaged or removed during the Ortho-k process. So, it's non-invasive, painless and great for sensitive eyes.

DID YOU KNOW?
Wearing glasses can actually make your eyes worse! While vision is clear, the peripheral light rays stimulate the eye to grow longer (axial elongation) which increases myopia.
MYOPIA CONTROL FOR KIDS
Ortho-k has special, important benefits for children between the ages of 8 to 18. While they are still growing, a child's eyes may elongate, which causes myopia to worsten.
Ortho-k works by eliminating the stimulation that causes the eyes to elongate and weaken. It can significantly slow down the progression of myopia and prevent kids from reaching the highest, most risky levels of myopia, where blurrier vision, thicker eyeglasses and serious eye disease is more likely.
Starting Ortho-k at the first sign of myopia is now considered the standard of care. Cosmetically, socially, academically, functionally and health-wise, the benefits are huge.
At Orbit, we treat children with Ortho-k and the results are impressive. Extremely near-sighted patients can see clearly after wearing Ortho-k for just a few days. Our practitioners use only Ortho-k lenses approved by the FDA and Health Canada for the overnight correction of myopia.
Myopia is more than just needing glasses. It is a global epidemic. Myopia is expected to reach 52% of the global population by 2050.
If your child wears glasses, please book a free consultation with us to determine if he or she is a good candidate for myopia control and Ortho-k.
